A Black Lives Matter protester who shot at cars during a demonstration in downtown Provo, Utah, on Monday, has been arrested and charged with attempted aggravated murder among other crimes. A shocking video, posted across social media Monday, showed at least one protester discharging a weapon multiple times into the cab of a large SUV that drove through a Black Lives Matter protest held in Provo on Monday. Provo police corroborated what is seen in the clip, posting on social media late Monday that a shooting victim had been received at a local hospital and that officers were looking for information on the shooter. WARNING: The video, via Deseret News, shows the shooting as it happened. “Provo City Police were made aware of a planned Police Rally and a Counter-protest scheduled for last night,” the department posted Monday. “Both events coincided without incident until 8:38 pm when a call was received regarding possible gunshots and a hit and run.” “Shortly thereafter,” Provo polic...

Jill Biden: ‘A Lot of Republicans Are Going to Vote for Joe’ — Trump’s Supporters ‘Disillusioned’

Tuesday on ABC’s “The View,” former second lady Jill Biden predicted “a lot of Republicans” would vote for her husband, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in November. Co-host Meghan McCain said, “As you know, Republicans are very tribal. Trump says that he has a 96% approval rating in the Republican Party. He’s predicting a big win because of the silent majority, which we know from 2016 does exist. How can you counter what he’s saying?” Biden said, “Well, you know, I think, Meghan, I have a little bit of a different slant on it. From what I’ve seen, a lot of Republicans are going to vote for Joe. You know, they’ve been saying it. Maybe they’re not saying it publicly. When I was out there on the trail, a lot of people came up to me and said, ‘Jill, I’m a Republican, but I’m going to vote for your husband because he’s a moderate and he’s a steady leader, and we believe in Joe.’ So, I think, you know, of course, Trump has his supporters. I think a lot of his supporte...

TIME Magazine Says Superheroes Are Like Cops And Should Be Reexamined

On Monday, TIME magazine published an article called, “We’re Re-examining How We Portray Cops Onscreen. Now It’s Time to Talk About Superheroes,” in which the author, a staff writer for the magazine, rips into cops and superheroes simultaneously, stating, “What are superheroes except cops with capes who enact justice with their powers?” Near the beginning of the piece, the author, Eliana Dockterman, argues that onscreen portrayals of police are too often positive, writing, “Legal procedurals and shoot-em-up action movies have long presented a skewed perception of the justice system in America, in which the police are almost always positioned as the good guys. These ‘good cop’ narratives are rarely balanced out with stories of systemic racism in the criminal justice system. The ‘bad guys’ they pursue are often people of color, their characters undeveloped beyond their criminality.” Dockterman then segues to linking those members of law enforcement with superheroes. “But as we engage i...

NBA To Paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ On Sides Of Disney Courts, Allow Players To Put Social Justice Messages On Jerseys

Along with endorsing players putting social justice messages on the backs of their jerseys, the NBA is working with the players union to paint “Black Lives Matter” on both sides of the courts in Walt Disney World arenas, where the league will play when it resumes its coronavirus-paused season in late-July. Despite the league’s efforts to incorporate social justice themed protests into its games, some players are still planning on opting out of playing in order to focus on activism. The NBA’s Disney courts decision follows players “insist[ing] that the fight for racial equality and social justice be a central part of the NBA’s return to play and the WNBA’s new season,” as well as several players stating they plan to stay off the court when play resumes “to focus on social justice issues,” ESPN reports. “The NBA and National Basketball Players Association are planning to paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the court inside both sidelines in all three arenas the league will use at the Walt Di...

Pharrell Williams Criticizes July 4, Calls For Reparations: ‘We Deserve That’

During an appearance on CNBC, musical talent Pharrell Williams criticized Independence Day for supposedly lacking in inclusivity and advocated for both reparations and for all employers to give employees June 19th, or Juneteenth, off as a paid holiday. “As Americans we love, and we appreciate Independence Day, but when July 4, 1776, took place, the only ones that were free from the British monarchy were our white brothers,” Pharrell told host David Faber, on Monday. “The white sisters could not vote the Native Americans where we get this land from,” he continued, “they were not free and certainly the African-Americans, women, and men, we didn’t have our freedom either. In fact, if everyone that is listening at home or watching at home just imagined a day or what it feels like to wake up in a world where you don’t own the land, the air, you don’t own anything everything comes from the express permission of your white brothers some of them.” Williams said that Juneteenth, “for us,” “f...

Terry Crews Faces Backlash For Saying Black Lives Matter Shouldn’t Turn Into ‘Black Lives Better’

Actor Terry Crews is facing more blowback on social media for daring to criticize the more radical elements of the Black Lives Matter movement. In a tweet on Tuesday, the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star appealed to God and called upon people to see each other as equals. “If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed and ideology. We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter,” he tweeted. If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed and ideology. We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter — terry crews (@terrycrews) June 30, 2020 Immediately, people on social media scolded Crews, accusing him of suggesting that the BLM movement’s perceived desire for equality is an attempt at fomenting notions of black superiority. “There are Asian Americans who hate their own community and worship white people too. Guess white supremacy cuts across all...

Joe Biden: I Am ‘Constantly Tested’ For Cognitive Decline

Image
Presumptive Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden said during a press conference on Tuesday that he is “constantly tested” when asked by a reporter if he has been screened for cognitive decline. “Some have speculated that you are subject to some degree of cognitive decline,” the reporter said. “I’m 65, I don’t have word recollection that I used to have, I forgot my train of thought from time to time. You got 12 years on me, sir.” “Have you been tested for some degree of cognitive decline?” the reporter asked. “I’ve been tested and I’m constantly tested,” Biden responded. “Look, all you got to do is watch me and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.” WATCH: Biden admitted today he's "been tested" and is "constantly tested."
