DONATE: Help Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey made landfall this weekend, causing widespread damage and catastrophic flooding throughout the Gulf coast. The Category 4 storm hit southern Texas on August 25th, and with significant rain forecast, the worst may be yet to come.

“My heart continues to be heavy for the good people of South Texas as they begin to deal with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey—and the flood waters are still rising in many areas,” said Franklin Graham, Samaritan’s Purse president.

Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief units are now operating in the region, and they need your help.

Two Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief units are now in Texas to help residents as they continue to struggle with rain, flooding, and destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey. Soon we will have a total of five of these tractor trailers in the state, setting up volunteer bases around Victoria, Rockport/Portland, Galveston/Santa Fe, and two in Houston.

URGENT: Thousands of volunteers will be needed for months to come. Please go to our Volunteer Network to sign up and get the latest information, which we will update as more details become available.

My heart continues to be heavy for the good people of South Texas as they begin to deal with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey—and the flood waters are still rising in many areas,” said Franklin Graham, Samaritan’s Purse president. “We will be moving into the hardest hit areas as soon as we are given the all-clear by the state authorities. We hope that over the next few months there will be thousands of volunteers who will want to come and help those whose homes have been damaged by this destructive storm.”

The hurricane made landfall on August 25 as a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 130 mph. Though now downgraded to a tropical storm, Harvey remains a powerful and slow-moving storm that could bring up to 50 inches of rain to Texas over the next several days. Southwestern Louisiana is also within the sights of this storm.

Widespread damage and multiple fatalities already have been reported from this devastating weather event. Catastrophic flooding is in process—much of Houston is under water and a levee has broken in nearby Brazoria County—with significant rain forecast. The worst could be yet to come.

Two disaster relief units left North Carolina on Friday, and those tractor trailers are now in Victoria and the Rockport area. We will be coming alongside hurting homeowners in Jesus’ Name and will be accompanied by Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains. Specifically, volunteer teams will cut trees, tarp roofs, and perform mud-outs.

Hurricane Harvey is the first Category 4 storm to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Charley swiped Florida in 2004.

Please pray for safety for those in the path of this devastating storm, and pray for our teams who will respond. Additional information can be found in this story.
