George W. Bush Arrives Unannounced to Texas Football Practice to Deliver Message About Houston

Former President George W. Bush made an unexpected visit to Southern Methodist University on Tuesday, surprising the football team during practice to deliver a powerful message about Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

“I know there’s some people from Houston here, and the Houston area, and I know you’re going through a really tough time,” Bush said. “Just know that there’ll be a lot of people that are going to help the people down there — a lot.”

The former commander in chief continued:

“Right now they’re recovering. So the key thing on the recovery is to keep people safe, and then it’s going to be rebuilding. And if you’re from that area, you’ll be amazed at the people who come down there to help. All kinds of people. And so the days are dark now, but they’re going to get better.”

The message of hope was delivered right on the field in front of the players.

At least 16 people have reportedly died so far from storm-related causes in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, including a police officer. The epic storm has resulted in unprecedented flooding in Houston and other areas in Texas.

President Donald Trump visited Texas on Tuesday to deliver a message of hope to the state as recovery efforts are underway.

“Texas can handle anything,” he said, moments before holding up a Texas flag.

He’s not lying.
