Dem Congressional Candidate Claims Trump Is the Biggest Threat to Democracy Since Osama bin Laden

In a new video ad, Dan Helmer, the Democratic congressional candidate for the 10th Congressional District of Virginia, said the greatest threat to American democracy was Osama bin Laden after the September 11 attack. According to Helmer, the biggest threat today “lives in the White House.”

Touting his military experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, Helmer took a direct shot at President Donald Trump.

“After 9/11, the greatest threat to our democracy lived in a cave,” he said, referring to bin Laden. “Today, he lives in the White House.”

“No one, even the president, is above the law,” he added.

In the ad, Helmer also voices his support for a Medicare-for-all option and stricter gun control laws.

According to his campaign website, Helmer, a West Point graduate, is still serving in the Army Reserves.
