Leave It to Al Sharpton to Find a Reason to Make the Royal Wedding All About ‘White Male Supremacy’
As people around the world celebrate the marriage of the United Kingdom’s Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle, the Rev. Al Sharpton was reportedly busy celebrating the death of “white male supremacy.”
Speaking during his weekly National Action Network rally, the New York Daily News noted that Sharpton brought up the fact that Markle is biracial, adding that her marrying into Britain’s royal family is a huge milestone for people of color — one that, according to him, marks the end of white supremacy.

“When you got little white girls in Wales saying, ‘I want to be like Meghan,’ there’s a shift worldwide that white male supremacy is on its last breath,” Sharpton said before continuing:
“When you have little white girls in Arkansas look up and say, ‘I want to be beautiful and smart like Michelle Obama. I want to dress like the Obama girls [Sasha and Malia],’ that’s where that white supremacy is questioned. White parents in their living room say, ‘We’ve got to do something.’ That’s what Trump played on. ‘We’re losing control of our own children.’”
The reverend then referenced a queen with African roots that he says the British monarchy kept a secret and noted that things are different this time around.
“They hid the fact that there was an African-blooded queen 57 years married to King George III, named Sophie Charlotte,” he said. “But Meghan is too well-known. Y’all ain’t gonna hide Meghan. In fact, she brought mama there so y’all can’t.”

Markle put her upbringing on display at her Saturday nuptials to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle by incorporating an American bishop from Chicago who is black, a choir of individuals who are black, and famous songs by African-American artists into the ceremony.
Sharpton claimed these elements were causing white supremacists to lose “their minds,” saying, “They’re losing their minds because the world is passing away where they are the standard. Where they decide what is beauty, where they decide what is of intellectual depth.”
