‘Roseanne’ Has Been Canceled — But Tim Allen Is Ready to Lead the Way for Conservative TV

Comedian Roseanne Barr is always and forever stirring up controversy, and now it’s come back to bite her. The actor’s latest jab — comparing the appearance of a former Obama staffer to a character on “Planet of the Apes” — led Tuesday to the cancellation of her recently rebooted eponymous sitcom.

While Barr herself — as well as Sara Gilbert, the show’s executive producer and the architect behind the wildly successful revival — is the day’s biggest loser, comedian Tim Allen is sitting high on the hog.

“Roseanne” was canned Tuesday after Barr tweeted that Valerie Jarrett, who served as an adviser to former President Barack Obama, is what would result if the Muslim Brotherhood and the “Planet of the Apes” movies “had a baby.”

Barr eventually apologized for the comment, tweeting:

But the damage was already done. After a couple of hours of deliberation — as well as a reprimand from Gilbert herself — ABC Entertainment decided to halt production on the popular sitcom about a middle-class family in Illinois.

Network president Channing Dungey described Barr’s tweets as “abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values.”

So where does this leave Allen?
But had it not been for the short-lived, one-season reboot of “Roseanne,” Allen’s popular sitcom “Last Man Standing” might not have been revived after ABC canceled it in 2016 despite six highly rated seasons.

Though Fox executives were already interested in bringing back “Last Man Standing,” the network told reporters earlier this month Fox was “emboldened” by the incredible ratings success of “Roseanne.”

The two shows — “Roseanne” and “Last Man Standing” — both drew from the same conservative audience. Both Barr’s eponymous character and Allen’s character, Mike Baxter, espoused conservative worldviews.

Allen certainly has Barr to thank for the resurgence of politically conservative sitcoms, and with “Roseanne” out of the way, he’s entering a wide-open market — no longer does he have to compete with the dropped ABC show.

So while you might be mourning the end of “Roseanne,” have no fear, “Last Man Standing” is, well, still standing.
