Maxine Waters Says She’s Getting Serious Death Threats — She Suggests Trump’s Tweet is to Blame

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump dropped the hammer on Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) after she called on others to continue harassing administration officials in public places:

Waters said that since that tweet, she’s seen an uptick in serious death threats and even had to cancel speaking engagements in Texas and Alabama.

“This is just one in several very serious threats the United States Capitol Police are investigating in which individuals threatened to shoot, lynch, or cause me serious bodily harm,” she said.

Waters specifically pointed to Trump’s “veiled threat” in his message “Be careful what you wish for Max!”

“As the President has continued to lie and falsely claim that I encouraged people to assault his supporters, while also offering a veiled threat that I should ‘be careful’, even more individuals are leaving (threatening) messages and sending hostile mail to my office,” Waters said.

Waters’s comments came amid an intense national debate surrounding civility and how Americans should respond to family separations at the border.

Waters previously argued that the family separations were bad enough to continue harassing behaviors like those targeted at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen:

Others, like comedian Jim Carrey and producer Judd Apatow, lodged serious rhetorical attacks on the Trump administration.

Actor Tom Arnold went so far as to target Trump’s son Barron:

“Way past sad & all in for these kids with @JuddApatow @FoxNews already hates me. On a plane to NY. Next is protesting Baron’s private school,” he said.
