‘They Don’t Want Me to Yell at Them’: Nikki Haley Battles Anti-Israeli Sentiments at United Nations
Nikki Haley has gone to bat for the United States’ closest ally, Israel, dozens of times since becoming the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations — and her colleagues at the U.N. are starting to take note.
Ambassador Haley joined the Foundation for Defense of Democracies to accept the Jeane Kirkpatrick Award for her defense of Israel at the U.N.
While accepting the award, Haley called the U.N.’s treatment of Israel “pathetic,” but added that she is making progress.

I knew there was a bias against Israel, but I hadn’t really put a lot of thought into it until I attended my first session. And when I saw, literally, how abusive all of those countries were being to Israel, in a way that was pathetic. Really, I had no choice but to get up and say this is completely wrong.”
Haley referred to the U.N.’s monthly sessions on the Middle East as “Israel bashing sessions,” but she quickly started to make things right after arriving at the U.N.
“Now we’re making them talk about other areas in the Middle East,” said Haley. “Now, frankly, they’re scared to say anything negative about Israel because they don’t want me to yell at them.”
Haley also discussed the Trump administration’s policies around foreign aid, adding that countries that chant “death to America” shouldn’t get a “single penny.”

The countries that we give money to, do they believe what we believe? Are they still actually wanting to be our partner and work with us. If they’re not and they’re shouting ‘death to America,’ why would we give them a single penny? And so, you are seeing those efforts of defunding those things that are not helpful to us and that aren’t in the United States’ interests.”
The Trump administration recently cut all funding to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees — an amount that made up approximately one-quarter of their total funding.
Tensions between the Palestinian Authority and the United States have been high since President Donald Trump moved the U.S. Embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.
Following that move, the U.N. voted in favor of a resolution condemning the embassy move. Ambassador Haley told those who voted against the U.S. that she would remember that when they came and asked for funding.
Apparently, she wasn’t bluffing.
