‘I’m a Victim of Sexual Assault’: Kellyanne Conway Shares Her Story to Americans to Blame Perpetrators, Not All Men

Kellyanne Conway made a painful revelation about her history of sexual assault during an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union.

Conway was on to discuss the fallout from the hearing for Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the pending FBI investigation. While discussing uncorroborated allegations about the judge, Conway revealed that she is a victim of sexual assault.

Watch:

“I feel very empathetic, frankly, for victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment and rape. That… I’m a victim of sexual assault. I don’t expect Judge Kavanaugh or Jake Tapper or Jeff Flake or anybody to feel responsible for that. You have to be responsible for your own conduct. […]

If not one Senate Judiciary member changes his or her vote because of what they learn from the FBI investigation, that tells you all you need to know about what the president and Judge Kavanaugh have said is a sham. Let’s just be honest about what this is about. It’s all about partisan politics. You know, I want those women who were sexually assaulted the other day who were confronting Jeff Flake. God bless them, but go blame the perpetrator. That’s who’s responsible for sexual assault. The people who commit them.”

Tapper, who was clearly caught off guard by her comments, offered up an apology to Conway, saying, “This is the first time I’ve heard you talk about something personal like that and I’m really sorry.”

“I’ve just had it with it all being the same,” said Conway.

Tapper pointed to the fact that Conway works for President Trump, who has claimed that women have lied about him in the past, but Conway didn’t take the bait.

“Don’t conflate that with this. Certainly, don’t conflate it with what happened to me,” said Conway, adding, “It’d be a huge mistake, Jake. Let’s not always bring Trump into everything that happens in this universe.”

Conway asserted that “we do treat people differently who are either victims or perpetrators of this based on their politics now and based on their gender and it’s a huge mistake. America, it’s a huge mistake.”

Clearly, it was not easy for Conway to discuss her past, reminding Americans, once again, that the issue of sexual assault is not as cut and dry as it may appear on the surface.
