Giuliani: Dems Shot Down Law That Would Have ‘Absolutely Prevented’ Cop’s Murder by Illegal Immigrant

Joining Sunday’s “Fox & Friends,” President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani weighed in on the recent murder of a California police officer, allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant, and said a rejected piece of legislation would have “absolutely prevented” the tragedy if it had been passed into law.

“This could’ve been prevented by just a reasonably sensible policy,” Giuliani said before bringing up 2017’s Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, which would have allowed for immigration enforcement action against suspected gang members even if they had not been convicted of a crime.

According to him, the suspect, Gustavo Perez Arriaga, should have been reported to Immigration and Customs in Enforcement for a DUI, but California prevented authorities from sharing that information with the federal agency. The Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, however, might have changed that, as Arriaga had known gang ties.

Giuliani then tore into Congressional Democrats for shooting down the bill:
“Democrats … voted against legislation that would have absolutely prevented this by focusing on gang members. He should’ve been taken in for being a drunk driver. […] There was special legislation to focus on gang members. Most of the Democrats voted against it. Almost every Republican voted for it. Had that legislation been in place, this murder may very well not have happened.”

While the House passed the bill along party lines — with most Republicans in favor and most Democrats in opposition — it ultimately failed to reach consideration in the Senate and never made its way to the president’s desk for signature.

The attorney also indicated that such heartbreaking instances are “going to keep happening” if Democrats don’t meet President Trump’s demands for securing our borders.

Officer Ronil Singh was murdered during a traffic stop on Wednesday. Arriaga, whom authorities say is an illegal immigrant, was arrested later on suspicion of the killing. President Trump also weighed in on the crime, calling for tighter border security.

“Time to get tough on Border Security,” he tweeted in response. “Build the Wall!”
