Lindsey Graham Changes His Tune on Syria — He Now Has More Confidence in Trump’s Plans
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) reportedly expressed more confidence in President Donald Trump’s plans for Syria after meeting with him for lunch on Sunday.
According to Fox News, Graham said that Trump “told me some things I didn’t know that make me feel a lot better about where we’re headed in Syria.”
Graham previously said that he would try to urge Trump to reconsider his decision to withdraw from Syria.
“I want to fight the war in the enemy’s backyard, not ours,” Graham said at the time.
He also tweeted that Trump’s decision was an “Obama-like mistake.”
Withdrawal of this small American force in Syria would be a huge Obama-like mistake. https://t.co/028NOsbyzT

As IJR Blue noted, Graham also vowed to tweet back at Trump whenever he said something about Syria.
“I’m not letting this go,” he said.

On Sunday night, however, Graham said he learned “a lot” after meeting with Trump:
I learned a lot from President @realDonaldTrump about our efforts in Syria that was reassuring. (1/3)

The President will make sure any withdrawal from Syria will be done in a fashion to ensure:
1) ISIS is permanently destroyed.
2) Iran doesn’t fill in the back end, and
3) our Kurdish allies are protected.

President @realDonaldTrump is talking with our commanders and working with our allies to make sure these three objectives are met as we implement the withdrawal. (3/3)

Graham expressed confidence that Trump’s withdrawal plan would include permanently destroying ISIS, preventing Iran from gaining influence in the region and ensuring protection for Kurdish allies.
Watch his comments outside the White House below:
Graham told reporters that he still had “differences” with the president but indicated that Trump was earnestly trying to balance national security interests with withdrawing troops from Syria.
“I feel pretty good about where we’re headed,” he added.
