Poll: Only 22% Will ‘Definitely’ Vote For Trump In 2020

According to a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll from The Hill, only 33% of Americans plan on supporting President Trump in the 2020 general election.

22% of those surveyed said they will “definitely” vote for the president; 11% said they will “probably” vote for him. On the other hand, 33% of respondents said they will “definitely” vote for Trump’s Democratic opponent.

“Another 11 percent said they plan to vote for another candidate in 2020, while 13 percent remain unsure,” reports The Hill.

This poll stands in minor contrast to the RealClearPolitics “Favorable/Unfavorable” average for Trump, which has the president sitting at 39.5% “favorable” as of publication.

Over the last six months, President Trump’s favorability rating has remained fairly steady, hovering in the low 40s. It wasn’t until very late into the month of December that his average favorability fell below the 40% threshold.

At 42.7% as of publication, President Trump’s average job approval stands even higher than his favorability. Aside from a dip that began at the end of August and lasted through most of September, the president’s job approval has remained relatively consistent.

The following is a RealClearPolitics breakdown of the president’s average approval rating per category:

Economy: 50.2%
Foreign Policy: 41.2%
Direction of Country: 36.8%
Polls are a snapshot in time, and it’s possible that the dip in Trump’s favorability rating, as well as his poor performance in the Harvard CAPS/Harris election poll, are a reflection of the partial government shutdown, for which 47% of Americans blame the president, according to a recent Reuters/Ipsos survey.
