On Wednesday, a teenage boy working at a Chick-fil-A in Flowery Branch, Georgia, looked through the drive-thru window and noticed that a 6-year-old boy in a car in the drive-thru lane was choking. Not wasting a second, Logan Simmons jumped through the drive-thru window and ran to the car, where he found the mother of the boy begging for someone to help her save her child from being choked by a seatbelt that had gotten tangled around his neck. On June 19, the House judiciary subcommittee on the constitution, civil rights and civil liberties held a hearing. Its stated purpose was “to examine, through open and constructive discourse, the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, its continuing impact on the community and the path to restorative justice.” Slavery was a gross violation of human rights. Justice demands that all participants in the trans-Atlantic slave trade make compensatory reparation payments to slaves. However, there is no way that Europeans could have captured millions of Africans. That means compensation would have to be paid by Africans and Arabs who captured and sold slaves to Europeans in addition to the people who bought and used slaves. Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended two “large groups” of mostly Haitian, South American, and African migrants. On two days this week, the Del Rio Station agents apprehended a total of 310 migrants. “Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents have apprehended people from over 45 countries around the world,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz said in a written statement. “Our agents, along with the assistance of our DHS partners, continue to meet each new challenge as the ongoing humanitarian crisis evolves.” On June 24, Del Rio Station agents apprehended a large group of 205 illegal aliens who crossed the Rio Grande from Mexico. Officials reported the group consisted of 122 Haitian nationals. The remaining migrants came to the U.S. from African and South America, officials reported. Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested a man they believe is the mastermind behind the shooting of former Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz. Police have detained Victor Hugo Gomez, who they allege actually orchestrated a hit on his cousin, Sixto David Fernandez, who is also a friend of Ortiz. Fernandez was with Ortiz the night of the shooting, and the two men look alike. Authorities believe the hitmen mistook Ortiz for Fernandez, The Associated Press reported. Gomez posted a video on YouTube professing his innocence, claiming he would not try to kill his cousin. “I would never do something like this,” Gomez said in the seven-minute video posted Friday. Round two of the Democratic Party presidential debate last night was another excruciating and pointless spectacle.
