Republicans Donate Money To Keep Marianne Williamson On The Debate Stage

She is a gift. And if she’s going to be the gift that keeps on giving, Republicans have to give a little bit.

That gift is Marianne Williamson, the quirky self-help guru who wandered out of a Self-Realization Fellowship temple somewhere in Beverly Hills and onto the Democratic Party debate stage on Thursday night. According to USA Today, Republicans fell so head-over-heels for her “girlfriend, you are so on” moment that they have now donated funds to her campaign just so they can get another dose of it in future debates.

“Author Marianne Williamson’s quirky, love-conquers-all approach on the Democratic debate stage Thursday drew applause, ridicule and confusion,” the outlet reported. “On Friday, she was attracting donations. From Republicans.”

Sparking off this trend on Friday was GOP strategist Jeff Roe, former presidential campaign manager to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who asked his followers to donate whatever they could to keep Marianne Williamson in the running.

“Please, calling on all Republicans to go to https://ift.tt/2xnCq7m and donate $1 to keep this vibrant democrat on the debate stage. One debate performance is not enough,” Roe tweeted.

Though Roe’s tweet had its share of hecklers, some people were more than willing to oblige.

“Did my part. I just gave Marianne a dollar,” follower Tony McDonald said.

“I already donated $1 to every candidate. I wanted all of them on the stage to make it a s*** show. Seems to be working,” said another Twitter user.

“I’ve donated $1 to http://Marianne.com to keep her onstage! She was the MOST entertaining DEM,” said another.

As noted by USA Today, the move rises above a standard troll and could actually have consequences “because qualifying for future debates requires a certain level of fundraising and support.”

Marianne Williamson rose to prominence in the early ’90s as a regular guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where she would often preach her new age philosophy about love, healing, and external forces that people can harness if they just love on each other more (or something like that). At the debate Thursday night, she gave America a small glimpse into her internal psyche when she declared that she will harness the power of love to defeat Trump’s harnessing of fear:

I’m sorry we haven’t talked more tonight about how we’re going to beat Donald Trump. I have an idea about Donald Trump: Donald Trump is not going to be beaten just by insider politics talk. He’s not going to be beaten just by somebody who has plans. He’s going to be beaten by somebody who has an idea what the man has done. This man has reached into the psyche of the American people and he has harnessed fear for political purposes.

So, Mr. President — if you’re listening — I want you to hear me please: You have harnessed fear for political purposes and only love can cast that out. So I, sir, I have a feeling you know what you’re doing. I’m going to harness love for political purposes. I will meet you on that field, and sir, love will win.
