Painting Of Trump’s WH Team ‘Crossing The Swamp’ Sets Off Frenzy

>Not many people know this, but Washington, D.C., used to be a swamp. It is now, figuratively, but it once was, literally.

If you’ve been to D.C., you’ve rolled down the eight-lane-wide Constitution Avenue. That used to be the Washington City Canal, and ran from 1815 until the 1850s (it once connected into the C&O Canal). During its decline, it served as a sewer, filled with human waste. The mosquitoes were horrible.

So Alexander “Boss” Shepherd ordered it filled in, and it became the city’s grand boulevard.

But President Trump brought the swamp back into vogue when he vowed to drain it (figuratively). And now, he’s flooded the city again by starring in a new painting called “Crossing the Swamp.”

Artist Jon McNaughton posted the painting on Twitter on Tuesday.

The artwork features Trump as Washington in the famous painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware.” The crew members in the row boat are members of the Trump administration — there’s National Security Adviser John Bolton holding a gun, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo holding binoculars, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders manning an oar, first lady Melania Trump and Vice President Mike Pence hoisting the U.S. flag.

Also on board are U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway and Chief-of-Staff John Kelly.

“Today, Trump endeavors to cross the ‘swamp’ of Washington DC as he carries the light of truth, hope, and prosperity. The murky water of the deep state is laced with dangerous vermin, perfectly willing to destroy American prosperity for their personal ideologies and financial gain. The establishment Democrats, Never-Trumper-Republicans, Deep State, and Fake News Media will do all they can to stop the majority of the American people from succeeding,” McNaughton wrote on his website (where you can buy a copy for as little as $29).

Twitter, as per usual, went bananas.

Some were more harsh.

One person pointed out that the stylish Melania might not be properly portrayed.

One even gave a name to that alligator at the front of the boat.

But there were supporters as well.
