Man Who Cut Off Uber Driver Said He Had a Gun — That’s When the Driver Shoots In Self-Defense

An Uber driver and his passenger had a close call after a man cut them off on the road and got out of his pickup truck saying he had a gun.

The dash camera on Uber driver, Robert Westlake’s, car showed he had to stop on the road after pickup truck driver, Jason Boek, cut him off and stopped. Boek then got out of his vehicle and started to aggressively walk over to him.

“You know I got a pistol? You want me to f**king shoot you,” Boek shouted as he raised his arm with a dark object in his hand.

That’s when Westlake pulled his own firearm and shot Boek once, killing him.

It was later revealed that Boek did not have a gun on him, as he was holding his cellphone instead.

The incident started because Boek mistakenly thought his girlfriend, who he had just exchanged a heated text conversation with, was in the Uber.

Unfortunately for Boek, the driver he cut off was a licensed armed security guard with concealed weapons permit. CNN further reports that Westlake had just completed training to become a police officer.

In the 911 call, Westlake calmly explained that after he was threatened, he put one round center mass in Boek:

“This is a justifiable homicide all day long. You have the right protect yourself,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated on the incident. “This was the intent of the law.”

Judd is referring to Florida’s “stand your ground” law, which states people are not obligated to retreat first if they feel their lives are threatened.

“Here’s a message for the hotheads of the community: Don’t do that stuff,” Judd continued. “Good people carry guns and they will shoot you. A lot. Graveyard dead.”
