Prosecutors for NM School Shooter Compound Case Miss Deadline — Now the Judge Has to Drop All Charges

The five adults responsible for running a compound that was training school shooters had their child abuse charges dropped against them after prosecutors failed to meet a deadline, allowing three of the five to be released from prison.

Reports broke a few weeks ago that authorities in New Mexico had found an Islamist compound that was allegedly abusing children and training them to become school shooters.

Investigators first raided the compound in search of 4-year-old Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj, a child who had been abducted and was believed to be with his father, Siraj Wahhaj.

When authorities arrived at the property, they found the remains of a toddler they believe to be Abdul-Ghani. In total, authorities arrested five adults and rescued 11 children from the compound.

Authorities arrested Siraj Wahhaj, Hujrah Wahhaj, Subhannah Wahhaj, Lucas Morten, and Jany Leveille. Each of the five adults faced 11 charges of child abuse.

According to court documents, prosecutors believed that if the defendants were to be released, “There is a substantial likelihood defendant may commit new crimes due to his planning and preparation for future school shootings.”

The prosecution team must not have been too worried about the defendants being released because they failed to meet a deadline, forcing judges to drop the charges on three of the defendants.

Defendants Hujrah Wahhaj, Subhannah Wahhaj, and Lucas Morten were all released due to the prosecutors’ failure to meet the procedural deadline following the arrests.

Many expressed their outrage with both the prosecutors and judges on Twitter.

The only charge the three will face now is criminal trespassing for building the compound on land they did not own.

The other two arrested at the compound, Siraj Wahhaj and Jany Leveille, also had the charges of child abuse dropped, but they remain in prison for the death of 4-year-old Abdul-Ghani.

Right now, the two have not entered a plea regarding the death of the toddler. Investigators believe the child died after not receiving medication for a condition that caused seizures. Leveille is also being held on immigration charges as well.
