After Reopening FBI Probe, Trump Promises Kavanaugh Will Be Recognized as a ‘Truly Great Justice’ on SCOTUS

President Donald Trump announced the start of an FBI investigation into his Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, while praising Kavanaugh as one day being a “truly great Justice.”

Trump called the FBI probe the “7th” FBI investigation on Kavanaugh.

On September 27, both Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford shared their testimony before members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a sex crimes prosecutor.

Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her decades ago during a high school gathering. She claimed he pinned her to the bed and attempted to remove her clothes while putting his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.

Ford wrote Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) a letter in July to describe the allegations.

“I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time,” Kavanaugh said in defense to the accusation.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) announced to the Senate Judiciary Committee during Friday’s committee vote that he would vote to move Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Senate floor but requested an FBI investigation and a one-week delay on a floor vote.

Trump responded following the committee’s 11-10 vote to push Kavanaugh’s confirmation to a full Senate vote and call for an FBI probe:

Trump ordered a limited, weeklong FBI investigation into the accusations made against Kavanaugh.

The president also praised his SCOTUS pick when he announced the FBI investigation, saying that Kavanaugh will “someday be recognized as a truly great Justice of The United States Supreme Court!”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also released a statement from the president on Friday:

Trump chose Kavanaugh as the Supreme Court nominee and has backed his choice. He has also previously opposed FBI investigations:

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released a statement on Friday afternoon about the FBI investigation:

“The Senate Judiciary Committee will request that the administration instruct the FBI to conduct a supplemental FBI background investigation with respect to the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court.

The supplemental FBI background investigation would be limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today.”

People will now be waiting to see whether or not the investigation finds evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Kavanaugh and if the voting will only be delayed a week.
