Trump Blasts Governor’s Infanticide Defense: Democrats ‘Ripping Babies Out Of The Womb’

In yet another show of affinity with his pro-life base, President Trump blasted Virginia Governor Ralph Northam this week for his shameless defense of infanticide under the guise of late-term abortion.

On Wednesday, Governor Northam said during a radio interview that a baby born alive should be allowed to die on the table if the mother did not want the child.

When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.

According to LifeNews, President Trump unequivocally denounced the governor’s defense of such a barbarous act.

“I’m surprised that he did that, I’ve met him a number of times,” Trump told The Daily Caller. “I thought it was terrible. Do you remember when I said Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb? That’s what it is; that’s what they’re doing; it’s terrible.”

The president added that the pro-life movement will only be emboldened by these radical bills.

“This is going to lift up the whole pro-life movement like maybe it’s never been lifted up before,” he said. “The pro-life movement is very much a 50-50, it’s a very 50-50 issue, actually it’s gained a point or two over the years.”

After facing significant backlash, Northam’s communications director, Ofirah Yheskel, issued a statement attempting to sanitize the governor’s stance.

“The governor’s comments were limited to the actions physicians would take in the event that a woman [facing nonviable pregnancy or severe fetal abnormalities] went into labor,” the statement said. “Republicans in Virginia and across the country are trying to play politics with women’s health, and that is exactly why these decisions belong between a woman and her physician, not legislators, most of whom are men. No woman seeks a third-trimester abortion except in the case of tragic or difficult circumstances, such as a nonviable pregnancy or in the event of severe fetal abnormalities, and the governor’s comments were limited to the actions physicians would take in the event that a woman in those circumstances went into labor.”

Yheskel added: “Attempts to extrapolate these comments otherwise is in bad faith and underscores exactly why the governor believes physicians and women, not legislators, should make these difficult and deeply personal medical decisions.”

As noted by Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro, the governor’s comments were a pure defense of infanticide. To say anything less is to obfuscate the fact or downright lie.

“This is pure infanticide. It’s also an argument for eugenic murder (see his comments about deformities),” Shapiro said. “Northam is specifically talking about delivering an infant alive and then asking the mother whether the infant should live or not. This is not an argument about the morning-after pill. It’s not an argument over whether a fetus feels pain. This is a statement that a fully-formed infant, born alive, ought to be murdered if the mother says the infant ought to be murdered.”
